Make sure you get the gas required, filled at a scuba diving store which is registered and experienced. They should be aware of the specifications like the compressed air and the gas pressure which is to be maintained in the tank. It is very important to have the right equipment for filling the tank and it should be done in the right and safe conditions.
It is also necessary to follow safety measures when you are traveling with the scuba diving gear including the tank. The tank should never left outside in the sun as the heat can result in the explosion of the tank as the air will expand with rising temperature. There are some instructions as to how and where you should keep the tank when you are traveling in a car. It should be kept in the car trunk with the valve facing the passengers so that the tank is away from the passengers in case of some causality.
The valve protector should be removed and the o-ring should always be checked before using the tank. Be sure to replace the ring if it is damaged and get a new one if it is missing. If you want to open the valve's knob turn it counterclockwise and should be other way round for locking it.
